Set up KONWA

Install KONWA, then install the virtual audio device that lets other apps hear your translated voice.

  1. Download KONWA for your platform and run the installer.
  2. Start it and sign in with your email address. We send a six-digit code — there is no password.
  3. Allow microphone access when your system asks.

That is enough to translate and hear the result yourself. One more step lets other apps hear it.

KONWA speaks your translation out loud. For the people in a call to hear it, that voice has to arrive at the call app the way a microphone would. A virtual audio device does exactly that: a fake microphone other apps can select, into which KONWA speaks.

  1. Install BlackHole 2ch on macOS, or VB-CABLE on Windows. Both are free.
  2. Restart your computer if the installer asks you to.
  3. In KONWA, open Settings, then Devices, and check that it has found the virtual microphone.
  4. On the same pane, choose your real microphone as KONWA’s input.

If KONWA says the virtual microphone was not found, the device is not installed or your computer has not restarted since it was.

Installing a virtual audio device and pointing a call app at it works differently on every machine. Copy this and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude or any assistant with your screen — it will walk you through your own setup, step by step.

I am setting up KONWA, a real-time voice translator for macOS and Windows. Please walk me through the setup one step at a time, and wait for me to confirm each step before moving on.

How KONWA works, so you know what we are aiming at:
- KONWA listens to my microphone, translates what I say, and speaks the translation in my chosen language.
- For the other people in a call to hear that translated voice, it has to reach the call app as if it were a microphone. KONWA does this through a virtual audio device.
- On macOS that device is BlackHole 2ch. On Windows it is VB-CABLE. Both are free.

Please help me:
1. Check whether the right virtual audio device is already installed, and install it if it is not. Give me the official download and tell me what each installer step is doing.
2. Open KONWA, go to Settings and then Devices, and confirm it has found the virtual microphone. Help me choose my real microphone as KONWA’s input there.
3. In the call app, set my microphone to the virtual device, and check that my speakers or headphones are still the output so I can hear the other side.
4. Run a test call with me and help me fix it if the other side hears nothing, hears me twice, or hears an echo.
